The Carlsbad Municipal Schools Elementary School #3 Photo Contest begins February 1, 2019, and ends April 30, 2019, at 5:00 pm MST.  By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest.

Photo Usage:

5 themes will be used in the new Elementary School #3 to identify each classroom wing throughout the school.  Photos submitted must follow the 5 following photo themes for submission:

  • Caverns: Photo from the caves of Carlsbad Caverns National Park
  • Desert: Photo must be from the Chihuahuan Desert
  • Waterfall: Photo must be from Sitting Bull Falls, NM
  • Rivers: Photo must be of the Pecos River within 15 miles of Carlsbad
  • Mountain: Photo must be from Guadalupe National Park

The photos will be installed as a 180” wide x 120” tall color graphic.  Minor adjustments including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents are acceptable for all categories.  All photos must be digital files with a minimum 5000 pixels wide and in .jpg or .tif file format.  Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible. No hard copy or scanned photos will be accepted.

For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must be prepared to provide a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian to Carlsbad Municipal Schools.  A sample model release form can be found here.

Similarly, entrants whose photos depict other people’s work (such as sculptures, statues, paintings, and other copyrightable works) must be prepared to provide a release from the rights holder to Carlsbad Municipal Schools upon request.  When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person’s creation.

Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including by not limited to copyright, are not eligible. Photos that contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent, or other objectionable or inappropriate content as determined by Carlsbad Municipal Schools in its sole discretion, are ineligible for all categories of this contest.

How to Enter:

Please submit photographs and requested information online through the provided website at contest.dpsdesign.org.  There is no limit to the number of photos that can be submitted by a single contestant.  Finalist may be asked to submit an original, unedited digital file.

Carlsbad Municipal Schools may collect a photograph’s meta data upon entry.  Photographers will retain the rights to your photographs; however, by entering the contest, you grant Carlsbad Municipal Schools (and those authorized by Carlsbad Municipal Schools) for perpetual, non-exclusive license to publicly display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or later developed, for any Carlsbad Municipal Schools purpose, including, but not limited to, advertising and promotion of the district and its website, exhibition, and products, including but not limited to Carlsbad Municipal Schools publications.  Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible.
